Gift of Life

Our church was blessed to partner with the Russian-based “Gift of Life” charity, whose main objective is to help children beat cancer.

Funds donated by our parish were used to purchase two wheelchairs (pictured right) for the oncology/hematology unit at the Morozov Hospital in Moscow. Some money was also given to the families of two girls Sonya and Arisha (pictured right), who have been battling cancer for a long time.

Charity workers say many families struggle financially and are in need of money for food, medicine, and transportation. Because of their weakened immune system, children are not allowed to use public transportation in order to avoid exposure to infections. So parents who don’t have cars (mostly those from out of town) are forced to use taxi services. Hours spent in Moscow taxicabs add up to enormously large bills.

We hope that our constant prayers and humble donations will ease these families’ burdens and help their sweet Angels beat cancer.

Yakutsk Orphanage

Dear Reverend Father Seraphim,

From the bottom of my heart I thank You and all Your parishioners, my dear Father Seraphim, for such a valuable contribution in the good deed of mercy. The importance of helping others, and especially children, who were deprived of parental care, is especially high in our harsh land. The money that you collected was brought to us by Tatyana Emelyanova and used to purchase essential in our climate winter clothes for the children of the Yakutsk Orphanage.

May the Lord bless you and all your loved ones.

With deep respect and gratitude,

Bishop of Yakutsk and Lensk, Roman

Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos

24.07.2011 in Missions

In 2010 we had the honor of meeting Archpriest Michael Kizyun, dean of Rubtsovsk district of the Barnaul Diocese in Russia. Since then we have established a very close friendship and were able to help each other over the years. One project our parish was involved with was building of the Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Rubtsovsk.

The construction of the church began in 1995. There were many challenges along the way, including alcoholism and drug abuse that were prevalent in the region. The parish had to build the church and at the same time regularly serve Liturgies, teach Sunday school, and spend time with inmates and orphans. That is why it took over 15 years!

In June of 2011, new golden kupola (dome) and crosse were blessed and put up over the church. Glory to God for all things!
